Targeted & Tailored

Years 0-6

This PLD will help teachers develop deep expertise in structured literacy approach (SLA) elements and effective, targeted teaching. It will also further support the application of explicit teaching principles.

Who it's for

The PLD includes targeted teaching for students with dyslexia and other literacy and language learning difficulties. Additionally, this PLD will support participants in leading sustainable changes in teaching practices and building in-school capability.

Funding overview

If you receive a staffing entitlement for Year 0-6 literacy support and would like to enrol a staff member from your school, please follow the link to your preferred provider below and enrol with them directly.

Eligible schools can enrol any teacher from their school who holds the SLA staffing resource role to participate in the PLD.

  • PLD costs will be paid directly to the provider by the Ministry of Education.

  • No Teacher Release Days will be funded for this PLD.

What it includes

This PLD will be offered through providers who have been quality-assured by the Ministry.

The PLD will be delivered over four school terms and comprises the following:

  • Core delivery: 5 full day facilitated workshops and 8 communities of practice per teacher

  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring (over 4 terms)

  • Specific targeted content for all elements of SLA as outlined in the English Learning Area

The PLD may involve face-to-face and/or virtual/remote learning and will run in cohorts. Individual providers will offer different dates for delivery.

Providers have different approaches to how they structure the PLD. We encourage schools and teachers to review these approaches to select the provider that best meets their needs.
